PORTRAITS
The MGM Years and Beyond

Garbo was exclusively photographed by MGM for publicity purposes. Clarence Sinclair Bull was the photographer at the studio. He was known as the man who photographed Garbo. It was Bull who created the famous Swedish Sphinx montage photo in 1931. She was a good subject and she liked to be studio photographed. She was patient, gave no complaints and had a good working relationship with Bull. Previously, Garbo had been photographed by Ruth Harriet Louise in the 1920s and by George Hurrell in 1930.
